Dedicated Team or Staff Augmentation? Picking the Right Model
Both models add engineers to your product. They differ in who owns delivery, and that changes everything about how you should manage them.

When a gaming company needs more engineering capacity, the two most common options are a dedicated team or staff augmentation. They sound similar, but they suit very different situations.
Staff augmentation
You add specialists, such as a Unity developer, a DevOps engineer or a QA lead, to your existing team. They follow your processes, your tech lead assigns their work and you own delivery. It works well when you have strong internal leadership and simply need more hands or a specific skill.
Dedicated team
You get a complete, cross-functional squad with its own delivery lead, working only on your product. The team owns sprint planning and delivery against goals you agree together. It suits companies that need a product built or extended but do not want to grow a large internal engineering department.
- Choose augmentation when the gap is a skill or capacity, not leadership
- Choose a dedicated team when you need an outcome delivered end to end
- Either way, insist on shared tools, weekly demos and code in your repositories
